Best Practices

Follow these recommendations to build a fast, beautiful, high‑converting and secure website with uLanding.

Performance

  • Compress every image before uploading (aim under 300 KB for photos). Use TinyPNG, Squoosh or similar.
  • Right‑size images — don't upload a 4000px photo for a 400px slot.
  • Prefer SVG for logos and icons (sharp and tiny).
  • Host videos on YouTube/Vimeo and link them instead of uploading large files.
  • Limit heavy animations — set the Customizer animation level to Reduced if your site feels sluggish.
  • Don't overload pages — a focused page with 6–9 sections loads faster and converts better than a 20‑section monster.
  • Let caching work — pages cache for 6 hours; only clear caches when needed.
  • Keep the homepage light — show 3 blog posts and 6 services, then link to full pages.

SEO

  • Unique meta title and description on every page, service and post.
  • Put your keyword near the start of titles.
  • Write descriptions to earn clicks, not to stuff keywords.
  • Use clean, descriptive slugs (/seo-services, not /page-3).
  • One main headline per page (your Hero headline).
  • Add alt text to all images.
  • Set OG images (1200×630) so shares look professional.
  • Link internally between related pages and services.
  • Publish helpful blog content regularly to attract traffic.
  • Submit your URLs to Google Search Console.

Design

  • Pick a theme close to your vision, then customize — don't fight the theme.
  • Set your primary color first — it has the biggest visual impact.
  • Use both light and dark logos so your brand always shows.
  • Stick to 2 fonts — one for headings, one for body.
  • Keep spacing consistent — uniform padding between sections looks professional.
  • Use contrast deliberately — a dark CTA on a light page (via per‑block Theme Mode) draws the eye.
  • One primary action per section — don't compete with yourself.
  • Lead with benefits, not features, in headlines and lists.
  • Use real photos and logos — stock‑heavy sites feel generic.

Conversion

  • Strong Hero — clear headline + one primary button.
  • Social proof early — brands, counters and testimonials build trust fast.
  • Clear pricing — three plans, one marked Popular.
  • FAQ to handle objections — answer the questions that stop people buying.
  • A CTA at the bottom of every page — always give the next step.
  • Short forms — fewer fields = more submissions.
  • Set expectations — "We reply within 24 hours."

Accessibility

  • Use sufficient color contrast between text and background.
  • Add alt text to every meaningful image.
  • Keep base font size at 16px+ for readability.
  • Offer reduced motion — set animation level to Reduced for a calmer, more accessible site.
  • Use descriptive link text ("View our services", not "click here").
  • Make tap targets large for mobile users.
  • Test with a keyboard — ensure menus and buttons are reachable.

Responsive

  • Test every page on a real phone before publishing.
  • Keep headlines short so they don't wrap badly on mobile.
  • Hide non‑essential widgets on mobile (Widget Builder → Advanced).
  • Check the off‑canvas menu holds all important links.
  • Ensure the hero CTA is visible without scrolling on phones.

Images

  • Compress and resize before upload.
  • Use transparent PNG/SVG for logos.
  • Consistent dimensions for cards and logo rows.
  • Descriptive file names and alt text.
  • JPG for photos, PNG/SVG for graphics, WebP where supported.

Typography

  • Two fonts maximum.
  • Readable body text — simple font, 16px+, line height ~1.6.
  • Distinctive but legible headings.
  • Don't use ALL CAPS for long text.
  • Limit line length — very wide text columns are hard to read (the container width helps).

Branding

  • Consistent colors across the whole site (set them once in the Customizer).
  • Upload a proper favicon and Apple touch icon.
  • Use your brand voice consistently in copy.
  • Keep logos crisp — SVG where possible.

Security

  • Only paste trusted code into Custom HTML and Custom Code fields.
  • Limit admin permissions — give team members only what they need.
  • Keep Ultimate SMS and uLanding updated.
  • Use strong admin passwords and two‑factor auth.
  • Don't expose .env or commit secrets.
  • Back up regularly — database + storage folder.

Caching & maintenance

  • Clear caches after big changes (php artisan optimize:clear).
  • Run migrations after updates (php artisan migrate).
  • Keep the storage link intact (php artisan storage:link).
  • Audit translations when adding languages.
  • Back up before re‑importing demos or running page‑builder migration commands.
